Every client is assigned a counselor. Sessions are typically held weekly. We meet our clients face-2-face or virtually.
You're not alone. Our counselors rotate as facilitators in leading group sessions. These encounters allow foster youth to learn therapeutic skills and encourage each other as they work towards sobriety.
The healing process is extended to the home. Our counselors offer interventions and support with the birth family and/or the caregivers. It takes a "healthy" village to raise our kids.
Everyone needs a place to call home and everyone needs to have a sense of belonging. Our team is comprised of counselors that seek opportunities to promote change. We know our kids of today are our leaders of tomorrow, and therefore what better way to plant seeds for a brighter tomorrow than with a positive impact on our youth.
The foundation of every service offered at Love Heals Youth begins with unconditional love and acceptance. Our counselors will not only serve as a guide along the child's journey, but they do not have to walk alone.
In Texas, approximately 55,000 children are taken into foster care each year with 80% of them suffering from mental health issues and trauma. Since January 2020, approximately 2,100 beds have closed down due to continued abuse while in the custody of the state which has caused an alarming increase for Children Without Placement. We have a solution! Love Heals Youth is providing free therapy to the foster youth that are placed in group homes. Seeing the children in group homes allows us to help ensure quality care for the youth.
It is important that we have additional oversight and accountability for our precious blessings as they are forced to live in a strange place filled with unfamiliar people. Love Heals Youth wants to support our children to improve mental well-being and have an added layer of safety so they are properly cared for!
We have foster youth in our area residing in group homes, that without Love Heals Youth, would only see their CPS caseworkers. Children are not always placed near their homes that they are removed from, so the trauma continues after the abrupt removal as they are placed in strange places all alone. Our counselors are working with children as young as 6 years old in the group homes. Without Love Heals Youth going into the group homes to render therapeutic services, there would be no community based care available to these foster children.
Love Heals You is dedicated to beating the odds! We are treating the mental health needs in the foster youth so they can navigate the impacts from the ongoing trauma in their lives. Our counselors offer additional training for the caregivers so they are better equipped to manage behavioral issues. Our team will report any concerns of mistreatment. We are their village! No one fights alone!
Approximately every 1 minute and 12 seconds another child in America enters the foster care system.
Rebecca Smith, MA, LPC-S
Founder & CEO
Rebecca has been providing mental health services to foster youth in the group home setting since 2008 and supporting the services out of her own funds. In 2020, she had a vision to establish a nonprofit so therapeutic services can be available to more foster youth in every single group home. Love Heals Youth needs to be statewide if we are going to save our foster youth. We need solutions to treat the mental health issues present in our foster youth as a result of their trauma and Love Heals Youth intends to fulfill this need!
